Quaker United Nations Office QUNO Charity Profile
The Quaker United Nations Office, located in Geneva and New York, represents Quakers through Friends World Committee for Consultation (FWCC). Since the founding of the United Nations in 1945, Quakers have shared that organisation's aims and supported its efforts to abolish war and promote peaceful resolution of conflicts, human rights, economic justice and good governance. FWCC, which links Quakers around the world, has had consultative status with the United Nations' Economic and Social Council as an international non-governmental organisation since 1948. In July 2002, FWCC was moved from Special Status to General Status. By this move, the UN has recognized that Friends do work of importance in a very broad range of international concerns.
Quaker United Nations Office QUNO Volunteer Information
Separate from permanent positions at QUNO, both offices fund annual Programme Assistant positions (PAs). These are aimed at young people who are interested in international affairs and the United Nations, and who have a commitment to Friends (Quaker) principles of peace, nonviolence and equality. Due to limited space and staff time at both QUNO offices, we cannot take up any of the kind offers we get for voluntary work. In the United States however, our parent body, the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), does provide opportunities for voluntary and youth work.
