National Committee for UNIFEM Sweden Charity Profile
The Swedish National Committee for UNIFEM is one of UNIFEM’s (United Nations Development Fund for Women) 16 national committees. The Swedish National Committee /UNIFEM Sweden was founded in 1986 as a not-for-profit organization. Today UNIFEM Sweden is a relatively small organization that hopes to grow considerably in the years to come. We value our members for their active engagement and support to UNIFEM’s work.
The secretariat is based in Stockholm, headed by Executive Director – Charlotta Linebäck and with a highly active Board of Trustees. Our many active local groups contribute greatly to our aims and goals and help to advance women’s human rights nationally, regionally and internationally through UNIFEM.
The Swedish National Committee supports the mission of UNIFEM through membership programmes, fundraising efforts to support UNIFEM programmes worldwide, and through public education about UNIFEM, global women’s issues and the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). An equally important part of the Committee’s work consists of generating dialogue and lobbying Swedish politicians to increase their support of UNIFEM and to raise gender issues in Swedish foreign politics.
