The Viva Foundation Charity Profile
The Viva Foundation’s strategy is to effectively address a community’s felt and expressed needs by creating a secure hub within an informal settlement and base it on familiar traditional values, namely the ‘village’ concept. This secure hub for service delivery is called The Viva Village and establishment thereof in high priority poverty areas, is the cornerstone of fulfilling the vision and mission of the organisation.
The organisation was founded in 2007 by a group of friends, with nothing more than some enthusiasm and a deep concern about the effects of poverty on human beings. The founders organized themselves, had the foundation registered and set out to learn from others and to pragmatically address the issues at hand.
The Vision of the Viva Foundation is to be instrumental in the transformation of informal settlements and other high-priority poverty areas into stable and economically viable communities that provide young and old with opportunities for education, employment, business and recreation.
The Mission of the Viva Foundation is to alleviate poverty and promote Christian family values in vulnerable, high priority poverty areas, such as informal settlements, slums, rural areas and inner-cities by establishing Viva Villages within such communities.
The management of The Viva Foundation is of the opinion that the organisation would be able to provide a meaningful solution in the area of skills development and income generation initiatives with the strategic partnership of existing parties in the Training Centre in Masakhane, Gansbaai, Western Cape.
Although the facilities offer limited space for the full spectrum of what the organisation can accomplish with the assistance of the community, there are nevertheless concrete ideas that has the transformational potential, that the Viva Foundation’s Vision aspires to be implemented there.
The Viva Foundation Volunteer Information
It is possible for individuals and groups to assist in the projects on a long term and short term basis. Institutions wishing to contribute expertise or physical support in the centre operations or in the building project, will be given the opportunity to do so. Presently we partner with the University of Pretoria, who makes available lectures and students from the Music- and Language Faculties, who come to the centre weekly to teach children and adults.
Other volunteer opportunities exist in almost every field imaginable. Needs in administration, building, event management, photography, practical assistance, such as gardening, cooking, cleaning and child care, make it possible for individuals to invest any amount of their talents and time, to help us in turn, to invest in the lives of under-privileged and vulnerable people and children.
Church youth groups are likewise invited to make Viva their community assistance project.
