WAJA work to:

Promote unity and solidarity among journalists in West Africa, as well as journalists from other countries in Africa and the rest of the world;

Defending the highest possible standards of journalistic ethics;

Promoting freedom of expression, the basis of freedom of the press;

Provide effective protection to journalists against political pressures, economic, ideological and cultural;

Encourage exchanges between media professionals in the region;

Encourage closer cooperation with African organizations and international media.
