Centre County Paws Charity Profile
PAWS (Promotion of Animal Welfare and Safety) is an organization of members, volunteers and staff in Centre County, Pennsylvania, committed to:
placing homeless cats and dogs into loving forever homes and making a lifetime commitment to each of these companion animals
reducing companion animal overpopulation through spay/neuter programs and education
promoting responsible pet care through education and by example
acting as an advocate on behalf of companion animals
building, nurturing, and respecting the human-animal bond, and
proactively seeking new approaches in the effort to end the suffering of companion animals in our society caused by cruelty, neglect, or human apathy.
PAWS maintains a noneuthanasia animal shelter and administers a spay-neuter assistance program, an educational outreach program, and emergency medical aid funding
Centre County Paws Volunteer Information
Centre County PAWS (Promotion of Animal Welfare and Safety) is a non-profit, volunteer organization. PAWS offers volunteers many rewarding opportunities. Volunteers must be over 18 to work at our adoption center. Volunteer applications are available at our adoption center. Our most urgent needs are listed below:
Foster Homes: PAWS is always looking for loving homes to provide foster care for our cats, kittens, dogs and puppies until we can find a permanent home for them.
Adoption and Education Center Workers: We are always looking for volunteers to help at our Adoption and Education Center when we are open to the public (currently 11-4 Saturday and Sunday). We need people to work at the front desk greeting the public and answering the phone. We also need volunteers to work in both the cat and dog wings helping to clean and prepare the building for the public and to serve as monitors, escorts and adoption counselors. Shifts are generally 2-3 hours long.
Dog Handlers: We are always looking for volunteers to handle the dogs at our public showings.
Weekday Cleaners: If you'd like to spend more time with the cats and kittens, or dogs and puppies, and less time with the public, this is the position for you. We are looking for volunteers that can come to our Adoption and Education Center to clean cages and litter boxes, and dog kennels, medicate and feed the cats and dogs, plus play with them. Volunteers working with the dogs also spend lots of time taking the kennel dogs for walks and socializing them.
Administrative and Non-Animal Related Activities: There are many volunteer opportunities outside of direct animal care. Opportunities include:

• Building and Grounds Maintenance
• Spay/Neuter Assistance Program
• Education
• Marketing and Public Relations
• Special Projects (pet food label redemption program; liaison to groups wanting to volunteer; database entry and management)
