Teach A Child (TAC) School System Charity Profile

The Society’s vision is “Realizing potential through equal opportunities”. Notwithstanding its place of origin, conceptually, its relevance and scope transcends geographical boundaries as in the case of LRBT and Citizen Foundation originating from Karachi and SOS from Lahore. Essentially, time required for financial and administrative capacity building will be the only reason for delay in its outreach to other areas in Pakistan.

“Teach A Child (TAC) School System’s is the ‘first’ and at present the ‘only’ institution of the educational programme of THS. TAC School’s concept revolves around the core idea of “Privileged Education for the Underprivileged”.TAC’s mission is ‘To enable and empower TAC children through competitive education to join the social mainstream’. Competitive education implies 17-19 years’ comprehensive cycle of quality education from nursery to professional university degree.

Each student is charged a dignity fee of Rs.5 per month against a monthly expense of approx. Rs. 2,000 per month per student. Students are given free uniform, free books to support the quality education, midday snacks and essential medical care. No lateral entry. The first entry of Students, who joined the school at the age of 4-5 years in Sep 1998 in Nursery, will remain in our academic custody till 2017 (19 years) when they would, Inhale, complete their competitive professional education at the age of 23-24 years. Together, we have already traversed half the distance.

TAC, besides being an academic institution, provides conducive environment to learn and practice the core religious and cultural values which are so very essential to develop a balanced and an enlightened Pakistani. End objective is ‘to enable TAC students to emerge as role models and positive agents of change in the family, neighborhood and the society at large.

Current Status

TAC successfully completed the 9th academic year in Sep 2007. TAC has 290 students on its roll studying in classes from Nursery to 9th Grade ( 1st year of O level / 9th Class) – a total of 11 classes. The children, who joined the school in 1998, will qualify O level / Matric in 2 ½ years by May 2010.

School currently housed in a rented residential building is not an ideal arrangement. A customized campus on an area of 5750 square yards is under construction. With a covered area of 75000 square feet. The building is designed to have four floors including a full length lower ground floor ( basement). The Society’s National Office will also be located in the new school campus. As part of External Evaluation Programme (EEP), LUMS Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) has conducted two “Impact Studies” in 2005 and recently in August 2007. LUMS has also researched to develop a case study on the concept of our educational programme which is under final review for inclusion in its MBA programme.
