American Lung Association of Oregon Charity Profile

We are the oldest, nationwide, non-profit, voluntary public health organization in Oregon. A voluntary Board of Directors governs us and we are the only community health agency dedicated solely to fighting lung disease and promoting lung health in Oregon. Our programs focus on the areas of asthma, clean air, tobacco prevention, and lung disease.

ALAO is governed by an elected, volunteer Board Members, who meet quarterly and function in between meetings through various committees. The Board oversees a paid, professional Executive Director, who is responsible for hiring and supervising the association's professional staff. Staff relies on the volunteer assistance of hundreds of Oregonians statewide in carrying out the ALAO mission.

Asthma Education
Teach children with asthma how to better manage their disease through the Open Airways For Schools program.

Advocacy
Influence public policy on tobacco prevention, air quality, and lung health as a member of the Lung Health Advocacy Network.
Special Event Fundraising
Help organize events, including our Reach the Beach Clean Air Bicycle Challenge, our 2000 rider, one-day bike trek to the coast to raise funds to support our education, advocacy, and research programs.
Public Awareness
Educate the public about indoor and outdoor air quality, tobacco, and asthma through health fairs, school presentations, and media interviews.
Tobacco Use Prevention
Help young people not to smoke by assisting with prevention programs.
Office Operations & More
Assist with bulk mailings, data entry, filing, telephone coverage and more!
