Wade Edwards Foundation Charity Profile
The Wade Edwards Foundation is a public non-profit organization qualified under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. It was founded in 1996. The purpose of the Foundation is to reward, encourage, and inspire young people in the pursuit of excellence. The Foundation has been the recipient of the generosity and support of many people and organizations.
The primary project of the Wade Edwards Foundation is the Wade Edwards Learning Lab, a free after-school computer and learning center adjacent to Broughton High School, a public high school in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Foundation is currently in the early stages of replicating the Learning Lab at another North Carolina site. Other Foundation projects have included A Place in Time, a public art sculpture and space at Broughton High School, the Wade Edwards Short Fiction Award, a scholarship award given annually to high school students in North Carolina, scholarship grants to students at Broughton High School for enriching extra-curricular opportunities, and participation in the creation of computer facilities at Method Day Care Center in Raleigh, North Carolina and in a national scholarship award in the National Conversation Essay Contest conducted by the Voice of America and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
