The Volunteer Center of Durham Charity Profile
The Volunteer Center of Durham is a public benefit, private nonprofit organization that has been in operation since the early 1970's.
Programs include Durham traditions like Share your Christmas, Hands On Durham, the Mayor's Award and The Great Human Race - just to name a few.
The Volunteer Center works closely with the Department of Social Services, local universities, the Chamber of Commerce, and local municipalities. Approximately 400 local and regional organizations and thousands of community volunteers use our services. Whereas most human service organizations focus on a single issue, the Volunteer Center is involved in all aspects of the community, which makes us unique. The Volunteer Center exemplifies the term grassroots.
Additionally, the Volunteer Center acts as a hub of activity for the nonprofit community -- providing training, resources, fund-raising opportunities as well as volunteer recruitment and management for dozens of local organizations.
Immediate goals for the organization include: strengthen all of our programs, improve our visibility in the community and grow -- in an effort to serve more clients and better meet the needs of the community; the ultimate goal being to help Durham and the surrounding area maximize its potential as a strong, viable and amazing place to live and work.
