The Sanctuary Charity Profile
The Sanctuary is an animal refuge run by Shawn Bishop and Michael Dixon in Matakana, New Zealand. We provide a safe haven for abused and neglected animals, and care for injured or orphaned native birds. A charitable trust has been established for this purpose.
The Sanctuary is a haven for all animals, with a focus on three main areas of work: Native Birds, Rescue Animals and Battery Hens.
The Sanctuary Volunteer Information
It is only with the help of so many kind people who donated their time and energy that the sanctuary has managed to come so far in such a short time. If you have a genuine interest in helping animals, we would love to hear from you!
Here are just a few areas that we would love your help with:
- Regular Help: Can you spare a couple of hours a week, and live near Matakana? Every week we have new animals coming in, old cages to clean, rehabilitated birds to release, and so much more!
- Carpentry: Do you know how to build shelters, or have experience building housing? We could really use you!
- Fundraising and marketing activities: Help out by suggesting new ways to fundraise, or lending a hand with fundraising events and activities.
The Sanctuary Donation Information
The Sanctuary receives no government funding and is completely supported by donations to the Charitable Trust. If you’d like to make a donation to support our work with injured native birds and abused animals, please help us and make a donation!
