United Way of Greater Rochester Charity Profile
For more than 85 years, United Way of Greater Rochester has been committed to making our community a better place to live. We’re a community problem solver, and we work hard to bring people and resources together to tackle some of our community's most pressing challenges. Mission: To magnify and focus the power of community resources to address our most pressing social needs.
Vision: To be the leading, broad-based community resource for identifying, solving and preventing our most critical social problems. Philosophy We believe that, as employees and volunteers of the United Way, we have a responsibility to serve the community. We believe that any member of the community who is inspired to help people in need can join with others through the United Way. Together, we make real, meaningful and measurable changes in peoples' lives.
United Way of Greater Rochester Volunteer Information
Volunteering is a great way to give back to your community. This year, more than 10,000 people took the day off from work or school to lend their time, talents, and energy to more than 500 projects in and around Rochester. Also this year, as part of the Day of Caring, United Way and the City of Rochester partnered to host additional education and literacy volunteer projects at several city schools. Volunteers read books to students, among other projects. As part of that literacy effort, M&T Bank announced they are donating $10,000 through United Way to fund a summer literacy program in five Rochester schools, and to launch a new program geared to ensure classrooms have supplies of books for students.
Many of the projects were done for local agencies that work hard, every day, to make our community—the place where we live and work—stronger. Besides helping these organizations, and ultimately those who they serve, volunteers had a chance to see, first hand, how United Way donations are put to good use.
