Cornerstones Community Partnerships Charity Profile
Cornerstones Community Partnerships works in partnership with communities to restore historic structures, encourage traditional building practices, and affirm cultural values. The built environment of the Southwest is one of the most beautiful examples of vernacular architecture in the United States. Many of these adobe structures are several centuries old and are symbolic of the rich heritage of the original builders. Traditions of community cooperation in maintaining the buildings have been passed down for generations. Thus, to preserve vernacular, historic architecture is to preserve the cultural heritage and values they embody.
For the past twenty years, Cornerstones has assisted over 300 rural Hispanic and Native American communities throughout New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, and Texas in the restoration of their historic and cultural structures as a means for the preservation of the rich cultural heritage unique to this region. Over 50 major restoration projects, led by the community, have been successfully completed.
Cornerstones' community-based approach to the preservation of historic structures integrates historic preservation with at-risk youth apprenticeships; on-the-job adult training; the promotion of community collaborations; and economic development through heritage tourism.

Cornerstones Community Partnerships Volunteer Information
Volunteers have been the backbone of Cornerstones since its inception. We are dependent on them to help small communities successfully complete restoration projects, help office staff track information and assist with mailings. Volunteers also provide technical expertise in areas ranging from engineering and architecture to public relations and photography.
Without question, the most popular way to volunteer is out in the field, doing hands-on restoration work in communities. Throughout the summer work season, participation in community workdays is a great way to interact with community members, learn more about local heritage and leave a little part of oneself behind in an historic building. People from all over the world have participated in Cornerstones workdays, and everyone seems to love the experience.
Cornerstones Community Partnerships Donation Information
Cornerstones needs your generous support to continue helping communities restore their historic structures. Only sixty percent of our funding comes from government and private grants; forty percent comes from individual contributions, which are tax-deductible. Every dollar given to Cornerstones leverages a five-dollar impact on volunteer and in-kind donations. Aside from cash, contributions of all types – including building materials, tools and office equipment are gratefully accepted. Cornerstones also has a variety of items for sale, including tee shirts and greeting cards
