Great Bay Coast Watch GBCW Charity Profile
The Great Bay Coast Watch is citizen volunteers, working within the UNH Cooperative Extension/NH Sea Grant Program, protecting the long-term health and natural resources of New Hampshire’s coastal waters and estuarine systems through monitoring and education projects.
GBCW educates citizen volunteers so they can monitor New Hampshire’s Great Bay for baseline water quality and the seacoast for Phytoplankton Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs or “Red Tide”). From time to time other organizations request help from GBCW volunteers to complete a variety of monitoring projects that would otherwise be to costly to do. GBCW is pleased to fill this important roll.
The health of NH’s estuaries and coastal waters is critical to NH’s people and economy. Knowing the condition of its estuaries and coastal waters allows NH to identify problem areas to target for improvement in order to keep its waters safe for fishing, swimming, and boating.
Great Bay Coast Watch GBCW Volunteer Information
GBCW volunteers come from the entire southeast area of New Hampshire as well as from southern Maine. We'd love to have you join us.
GBCW will be completing the current grant this Spring, and we have a lot to do to get it started. Kits need to be refilled, new volunteers need to be trained, and QAQC needs to be run.
