Bedford Land Trust Charity Profile
New Hampshire's open spaces and productive lands are rapidly being lost. Since its inception, the Bedford Land Trust has been concerned with identifying ways to help preserve Bedford's rural character and unique qualities. This includes providing access to Bedford's natural assets, educating the public about land preservation, establishing conservation areas for wildlife habitat, resource protection and passive public recreation.
Our mission is to protect and conserve strategic parcels of land in the Bedford, NH area, to preserve our rural character, and to provide protection for water resources and wildlife habitat for the benefit of the people in Bedford and the surrounding area.
Bedford Land Trust Volunteer Information
Our Stewardship Committee is busy monitoring each of the properties on which the BLT holds easements. Volunteers are finishing baseline documentation for two of the properties, which includes survey data and photos - data used for comparison on future visits. The Stewardship Committee Chair, Bob Jones, is currently training volunteer stewards who will take the time to walk the easement boundaries on a property and check that no one has encroached on the property, dumped trash or otherwise altered the land. Volunteers will be needed to monitor these properties, to visit the property, fill out a one page report form and send it to the Land Trust. It takes less than 3 hours per year to monitor a property.
