Communities in Schools Nevada Charity Profile
For more than 28 years, CIS has championed the connection of needed community resources with schools. By bringing caring adults into the schools to address children's unmet needs, CIS provides the link between educators and the community. As a result, teachers are free to teach, and students -- many in jeopardy of dropping out -- finally have the opportunity to focus on learning.
Founded in the 1970s on the belief that programs don't save children, relationships do, Communities In Schools (CIS) has become the nation's most effective and widely respected community-based organization helping kids succeed in school and prepare for life.
CIS of Southern Nevada is part of a national network with the CIS National Office in Alexandria, Virginia. In Las Vegas, Communities In Schools connects at-risk students in the Clark County School District with a variety of on-site services including a medical clinic, direct dental services, food to go programs, monthly birthday parties, a clothing closet and career clubs and e-mentoring programs.
