Safe Nest Volunteer Information
Protection Order Assistants are stationed at Family Court and assist clients with filing protection order applications, provide information regarding court-related procedures and help with safety planning. Protection order assistants are asked to commit to four hours of volunteer service per week.
Shelter Advocates provide direct support and assistance to hotline callers, shelter residents and/or their children. Duties may include answering crisis calls, providing information on safety planning, screening callers for shelter and making appropriate referrals. Advocates may also take applications for emergency protection orders over the phone and may assist in the daily upkeep of the shelter through special projects ranging from sorting donations to assisting residents with transportation to necessary appointments to minor clerical work. Shelter advocates are asked to commit to a minimum of four hours per week.
Children's Program volunteers are needed for a variety of short and long-term programs, including: Assisting in the playroom, helping with story time and providing arts and crafts instruction. Children's program volunteers also assist with special projects, homework and social-skill building. Most importantly, volunteers give love, support and attention to the children.
Special Projects and Outreach Events volunteers make it possible for Safe Nest to participate in many community events and fundraisers. Volunteers are also needed to staff information and event booths to distribute information about Safe Nest.
Administrative, Construction, Maintenance and Miscellaneous Support services are essential components to supporting Safe Nest's work. Whether you are interested in clerical work, construction and upkeep, or have a specialized skill to offer, there is a place for you. Please contact us to discuss your talents and interests.
Court Support volunteers are a valuable asset to victims of abuse. By learning about the legal system and how it affects victims of domestic violence, volunteer specialists help victims navigate the legal system and accompanying them to court.
