Fernley Circles Charity Profile
Circles was developed by Move the Mountain Leadership Center after years of working to find strategies that would reduce poverty. Circles grew out of the premise that a high impact strategy to end poverty will not only change the situations of individuals but will also change the mindset of a community.
While the current programs that provide assistance to individuals who are struggling are valuable, they tend to be quick-fix band-aids that remedy the immediate problems but don't actually move people out of poverty. Therefore, in 2006, Lyon County Human Services began working with Move the Mountain Leadership Center to develop a strategic plan for the county that would strive to impact the effects of poverty in our communities. They developed a Case for Change that outlined the current reality of the struggles that many of our residents face, including statistics and personal stories. At that time, Lyon County was the second fastest growing county in the nation and, while housing prices climbed, Fernley lacked the infrastructure to accommodate the growing needs of its residents, creating a substantial gap between those who were prospering and the ones that were struggling.
