The Central Library and the Branch System play different, yet complementary, roles in fulfilling the Library's mission. These roles are defined as follows:

Central Library Role: The Central Library actively provides timely, accurate, and useful information; supports individuals of all ages pursuing a program of independent learning; and assists researchers in conducting in-depth study or investigation in specific subject areas.

Kansas City Public Library Volunteer Information

The Friends of the Library is a non-profit volunteer group dedicated to promoting the Kansas City Public Library's programs and activities by providing resources and support to the library system and the community it serves.

Become an important part of our Library’s brilliant future and at the same time help to preserve its glorious past. Meet authors and other noted personalities. The Friends have opportunities to help at special programs throughout the year.
