Girl Scout Council of the Ozark Area Charity Profile
Girl Scouting has been impacting the lives of girls for a long time. The movement began in 1912 when Juliette Gordon Low returned to the United States and made the historic phone call to her distant cousin saying, I've got something for the girls of Savannah, and all of America, and all the world, and we're going to start it tonight! From the original 18 girl members to 3.7 million members worldwide, Girl Scouting continues to grow today.
Here in southern and central Missouri, southeastern Kansas and northeastern Oklahoma, Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland was formed on October 1, 2008 by a merger of five legacy councils consisting of 68 counties. As our new council begins its journey, we have the proud histories of our legacy councils and our national organization upon which to build.
