John Ball Zoological Society Charity Profile
The John Ball Zoological Garden is owned and operated by the County of Kent. The John Ball Zoological Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation serving as a private support organization for the John Ball Zoo. The Zoo Society incorporated in 1950 and has been working in partnership with the Zoo since that time.
The Society operates a membership program, food services and the Gift Shop, coordinates publicity and promotions, and conducts fund-raising operations. The Zoo Society contributions include funds for promotions, events, marketing, advertising, animal purchases, a portion of the education budget, and all capital exhibit construction.

Animal Care Team
Are you 18 years of age or older and have an interest in working with animals or in an animal-related career? Then the Animal Care Team may be just right for you! This volunteer program allows you to experience what it takes to care for the animals here at John Ball Zoo. From preparing diets and cleaning animal viewing areas to observing and recording behaviors, the animal care team is a wonderful opportunity for those who are passionate about caring for animals. Openings are limited by schedules and staff needs. Shifts are 2 hours minimum and must be regular and consistent.
Volunteer Divers
Are you 21 years of age and SCUBA certified with at least 15 logged dives?
Volunteer Divers assist in cleaning and maintaining exhibits, preparing food for and feeding exhibit animals and assist the animal care staff in the Living Shores Aquarium.
Office Guy/Gal Friday
Are you proficient in clerical/data entry skills? Adults can assist office staff with a variety of office and library duties. Opportunities are available Monday - Friday 9am to 4pm.
The Ball 40
Ball 40 volunteers offer park users services, events, and activities that were not available before. Among these are expanding the nature trail, maintaining flower beds, and helping park users find their way.

John Ball Zoological Society Donation Information
The John Ball Zoo always welcomes general donations or memorial donations in any amount. Funding for the various educational programs and special events as well as the daily operation of the Zoo Society can be a difficult thing to accomplish at times. However through generous contributions from donors we are better able to provide first rate programs.
