Institute for Sustainable Living, Art and Natural Design (ISLAND) Charity Profile

ISLAND’s mission is to create spaces that explore the integration of art, natural design and sustainable living. We do this to begin answering the question: Can we live in such a way that cares for small places?

Our vision is inspired in large part by the work and writings of Wendell Berry, whose essay The Purpose of a Coherent Community asks a number of similar questions. Our work is to create such a small place, coherently connected to the arts, to agriculture, ecology and the larger cultural and economic communities of Bellaire, Forest Home Township, Antrim County and Northwest Lower Michigan.

We're looking for a few folks with a few hours to give toward a few select projects this spring and summer.
