Cambodia Pride Charity Profile

Founded by Elaine Negroponte in 2005, CAMBODIA~p.r.i.d.e. is an outgrowth of the 2B1 foundation, which was established by Nicholas Negroponte and his son Dimitri. Like 2B1 and Negroponte’s current $100 laptop project One Laptop per Child, CAMBODIA~p.r.i.d.e. seeks to promote learning through creative exploration. This is a pioneering educational approach using computers developed by world-renowned MIT Media Lab Professors Seymour Papert and Mitchel Resnick.

The digital learning program in Reaksmy now serves as an innovative “school in a school”, complementing the rudimentary government school system. The school’s innovative approach includes MIT-developed learning programs, such as LEGO/Logo and, most recently, Scratch, an inventive program that allows children to build their own multimedia creations on the computer as easily as they would build physical structures using LEGO building blocks. The goal is to use these new tools to get the children thinking for themselves, ­something that never happens in their regular school programs.
