Hancock County Medical Mission Charity Profile
Hancock County Medical Mission serves the poor of South America with medical care during our annual two-week trips.
Volunteers from beautiful Hancock County on the coast of Maine lend their talents to those in Ecuador or Bolivia who cannot afford proper medical attention.Non-medical members provide expertise in logistics and maintenance, Spanish translation, child care, and as general helpers. We also have a scholarship program that funds two or three high school students to come, translate for us, and improve their Spanish.Hancock County Medical Mission was founded in 1989 by several energetic medical professionals hoping to make a difference in the health care of poorer nations.
Originally, three local hospitals were represented: Mount Desert Island Hospital in Bar Harbor; Blue Hill Memorial; and Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth. Now, after more than twenty years, volunteers represent a wider area of Maine, and join with others from elsewhere in the USA and Canada.
