The Dodwell Turst Charity Profile
The Dodwell Trust – a registered UK charity, was started in 1995 by Christina Dodwell to help the people of Madagascar.
Alongside Mitondrasoa – the Malagasy NGO created as local partner, the Trust's chosen field is in family health, education, and sustainable development through Malagasy radio, and Volunteer schemes.
Our small but well-trained Malagasy team carry out the production and national broadcast of radio programmes, in long and short series, the longest lasted 3 years and won the hearts of 10 million listeners.
To assist the participation of listeners, our team set up and trained 1800 groups throughout the country, using wind-up/solar radios donated to the project. These groups, the first of their type in Madagascar, provide monthly feedback about the issues. Our goal is to reduce poverty by:
improving the ability of young people to play a positive role in sustainable development, and to improve their capacity to communicate with the English-speaking world about development issues;
improving the capacity of grass-roots individuals and communities to achieve leverage and generate revenue.
