Shamrock Foundation Charity Profile
The Shamrock Pet Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to end pet overpopulation, reduce the number of companion animals destroyed in local shelters, and to save or enhance the lives of animals in need in our community. This is accomplished through spay/neuter, education, emergency medical assistance, rescue, foster care, and the adoption of pets into loving lifetime homes. We are a group of highly committed, unpaid volunteers who have a passion for our mission and its goals.
Watch Our Public Service Announcements About Animal Cruelty Prevention
Every April is Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month. Shamrock Pet Foundation would like to share two public service announcements and ask that everyone help fight animal cruelty.
There are two types of animal cruelty: they are passive cruelty, and active cruelty. Passive cruelty involves cases of neglect or abandonment. Neglect is the failure to provide an animal with the most basic of requirements of food, water, shelter and veterinary care. Examples of neglect are starvation, dehydration, parasite infestations, allowing a collar to grow into an animal's skin, inadequate shelter in extreme weather conditions, and failure to seek veterinary care when an animal needs medical attention.
Active cruelty is when a person has deliberately and intentionally caused harm to an animal, including the animal being beaten, mutilated, set on fire, shot or killed. Animal fighting and puppy mills are also considered active cruelty. Dog fighting is illegal in all fifty states and being an observer at a dog fight is against the law in forty-seven states.
Shockingly, nearly ninety percent of animals that die every year are cause of animal abuse and animal neglect. However, you do not have to be a cop, a lawyer or a judge to fight animal cruelty. If you witness an act of animal cruelty, please contact your local law enforcement or animal control immediately.
