Cedar Lake Lodge Charity Profile
The mission of Cedar Lake is to provide residential options, housing, services and supports designed to meet the individual needs
of persons with intellectual disabilities. Cedar Lake is a private not-for-profit association that originally incorporated out of common concern for persons with mental retardation and the lack of adequate residential facilities within our geographic area.
Cedar Lake was founded in 1970 by Louisville-area parents of persons with intellectual disabilities. Cedar Lake Lodge began providing campus services in 1974, and added “community-based” service options, Cedar Lake Residences, in 1989. Cedar Lake is a faith-based organization, and is formally affiliated with the Lutheran Church.
Collectively, Cedar Lake operations employ more than 300 staff members and have an annual operating budget in excess of $15 million, providing services to approximately 200 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Cedar Lake Foundation is a publicly supported, charitable supporting organization designed to provide fundraising, endowment management and trust services.
One of the primary functions of the Cedar Lake Foundation is to provide financial assistance for residents who are indigent, abandoned, have a limited ability to pay, and/or do not have available or adequate forms of governmental assistance. Currently, about 25% of the persons served by Cedar Lake Lodge and Cedar Lake Residences are indigent, abandoned or need financial assistance. CLF also provides funding for services that are beneficial to clients but are not reimbursed by Medicaid. Each year, Cedar Lake Foundation provides $500,000 for such assistance.
The Cedar Lake Foundation enjoys wide support from the community, receiving gifts and grants from more than 3,500 generous and caring individuals, churches, service clubs, corporations, and private foundations. All contributions and bequests made to Cedar Lake Foundation are tax-deductible to the full extent of the laws of the Internal Revenue Service and the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
