Fondazione Banca Degli Occhi Del Veneto Charity Profile
Fondazione Banca degli Occhi is a no-profit, socially useful organisation (ONLUS).
It is the top eye bank in Europe as far as the distribution of corneal tissues for transplant are concerned.
It is also the Reference Centre for Corneal Transplants for the Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia regions and, since 2002, has been the Regional Research Centre for Research into Epithelial Stem Cells for the Veneto Region.
The Foundation is also the only European eye bank to have become an Accredited Member of the Eye Bank Association of America; it also belongs to the European Eye Bank Association which is under the Foundation's presidency for the three year period 2004-2006, in the person of the Foundation's Medical Director.
It also carries out continuous training activities for the professional figures involved in the donation-transplant process at its own Training and Study Centre named Eidon.
Our Vision
We can visualise a world in which each and every person has adopted the idea of donation as a conscious choice capable of giving comfort to others, offering people in need of a cornea or other eye tissues the chance to improve the quality of their life with the help of a quality service. We can see a world in which our Organisation continues to grow on a professional level and commits itself to undertaking research activities in order to find innovative solutions to problems connected with cornea diseases, continuing to make the harmony that exists between the professional and private spheres of the people involved our mainstay.
Our Mission
Fondazione Banca degli Occhi is a non-profit organisation which, on the basis of a vision of health which considers people globally, from an organic, psychological and emotional point of view, has set itself the following mission:
to ensure that cornea donation is fruit of a conscious choice, capable of giving comfort to others;
to improve the quality of life for those affected by eye diseases, especially those requiring a cornea transplant or transplant of other tissues.
In order to pursue these aims, Foundation carries out the following activities:
communication and training activities
recovery, selection and distribution of tissues;
cultivation and distribution of epithelial stem cells;
research;
diagnostic services.
In carrying out the above activities, Foundation is motivated by the following principles:
supporting innovation and encouraging creativity;
appreciating and giving human and professional value to all those people who collaborate throughout the donation-transplant process;
ensuring ongoing quality improvement;
guaranteeing transparency in all spheres.
