Italian Association Amici Di Raoul Follereau Charity Profile

AIFO is a grassroots organisation with groups of volunteers spread all over Italy. Some of local AIFO groups are NGOs officially recognised by their local administrative bodies. The different AIFO groups are organised in regional level coordinations. Delegates from AIFO groups and coordination offices together constitute AIFO's General Assembly.

AIFO's head-office is in Bologna in northern part of Italy. AIFO's activities can be divided into two main groups - activities in the developing countries and activities in Italy. Activities in developing countries are mainly related to leprosy, community and primary health care, disability and rehabilitation, and vulnerable children. Activities in Italy are related mainly to development education.

Mission of AIFO

AIFO has chosen to focus its activities in supporting leprosy affected persons and persons with disabilities through integrated development projects, with particular attention towards the poorest and vulnerable groups of persons, in a spirit of partnership.

At the same time AIFO promotes activities of development education in Europe , for a better understanding of causes underlying poverty and under-development and for a just North-South relationship.

Respect of Human Rights of persons affected with leprosy and persons with disability

Recognizing the special value of all persons affected with leprosy and all persons with disabilities.

Believing in the social justice, dignity and equality of all peoples.

Opposing any kind of discrimination, especially towards persons affected with leprosy and persons with disabilities.

Promoting special attention towards the needs of more vulnerable groups like poor, women and children.

Fundamental Operating Principles for the Work of AIFO

To seek an equilibrium between activities which answer immediate needs and those which promote a durable and sustainable development.

To seek constantly an improvement in the physical and working capacities of persons affected with leprosy and persons with disabilities, till they can decide their own destinies.

To seek to fight against the causes of under-development, discrimination and poverty in all activities.

To seek to give voice to persons affected with leprosy and persons with disabilities so that they can mobilize public opinion and change policies and actions which affect their lives.

To seek an equilibrium between interventions in area where these can have most impact and the areas where such activities are most needed.

Italian Association Amici Di Raoul Follereau Volunteer Information

Virtual volunteering for AIFO: We look for virtual volunteers, who can help us by working at their own homes through emails. We welcome virtual volunteers, who can help us for translation of documents into Italian. We especially need volunteers who speak Italian along with English or Portuguese.

We also welcome volunteer designers, who can help us by making illustrations for books and manuals aimed at persons in developing countries.

Volunteering in AIFO office in Bologna: We also welcome persons who wish to come and help us as volunteers in our office in Bologna. Working knowledge of Italian is preferred in volunteers.

For volunteers coming from outside Bologna or outside Italy, we regret to inform that we are unable to provide any financial support and you must look for this support from other sources
