Ames Izaak Walton League Charity Profile
The Ames Ikes began in February 1949 with 152 charter members. Today our chapter has grown to nearly 700 members. Over the years there have been many changes to the park and facilities: property was purchased in the spring of 1950; the lake was constructed that fall; the chapterhouse was added in 1960 and additional property was purchased in 1967 for the expansion of the Trap & Skeet range. Currently we have 77 acres which includes a five acre lake.
The facilities for those families, individuals, and groups sharing common interests that fellow Ikes members share to get together and have fun. The Ames Ikes chapter is unique, unlike many other Ikes chapters, we have the facilities for multiple forms of outdoor recreation. We have one of the few rifle ranges in this part of Iowa with a 200 yd range. We also have an Archery Range, Camping, Hiking Trails, Trap & Skeet Range, and five acre lake.
Ames Izaak Walton League Volunteer Information
The Ames Chapter desperately needs your help to keep the park operating smoothly. The grounds committee needs people to help mow the park. With more than 80 acres of ground to care for and approximately 10 acres that need to be mowed regularly, those who selflessly volunteer their time - maintain our chapter's grounds. All too often, however, it is only a handful of members who are willing to help out. This in turn, leads to burnout and the loss of good members. By spreading out the work, we can ease the pressure on volunteers and further strengthen our club.We need 10 or 15 people who can volunteer a few hours a month - weekdays, weekends, evenings, it is really up to you.
