CASA of Grant County Charity Profile
CASA of Grant County is affiliated with the Indiana State Office of GAL/CASA, which is part of the Indiana Supreme Court, Division of State Court Administration. CASA of Grant County is certified by the State Office and complies with the Indiana Supreme Court Program Standards and Code of Ethics for GAL/CASA programs. CASA of Grant County is also a member of the National Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Association. Volunteers from local CASA programs in Indiana advocated for 15,849 abused and neglected children in 2006. Sadly, this was a 50% increase from 2005.
Right here in our community, CASA of Grant County supported volunteers to work with 88 children last year, with many remarkable success stories. 29 volunteer advocates served these vulnerable children in 2006, yet there remains a tremendous need for additional volunteers as the number of children being referred to the CASA programs continues to grow.
CASA of Grant County recruits, trains and supports CASA volunteers as advocates to get to know the abused or neglected child and determine their needs and what is in the child's best interest for their future. The CASA volunteer communicates this information about the child to the court so the child's voice can be heard.

CASA of Grant County Volunteer Information
There are over 50,000 CASA volunteers across the country. CASA of Grant County is seeking individuals from diverse backgrounds to participate in the rewarding and empowering experience of serving as a CASA volunteer. Volunteers must be at least 21 years of age and must pass screening requirements and receive training to serve as a CASA. All applicants are welcome, but African American, Hispanic individuals and men are especially needed.
CASA of Grant County recruits and provides thorough training for volunteer advocates (32 hours) to prepare them to investigate cases, assure that children's needs are met during the legal proceedings, and assist children with navigating the complex child welfare system. Volunteers are asked to commit to a child until the legal proceeding is over and the child is able to go home, is adopted or achieves permanency in a safe and stable home.
