Little River Wetlands Project Charity Profile

Little River Wetlands Project restores and protects wetlands in the Little River watershed stretching from Fort Wayne, Indiana, southwest to the Wabash River, a 25,000 acre area once known as the Great Marsh. It now protects more than 1,000 natural acres and serves up to 3,000 adults and children in its free nature education programs annually. Eagle Marsh, LRWP's 750-acre preserve on the outskirts of Fort Wayne, is one of the largest wetland restorations ever done in Indiana.

Wetlands store floodwater, cleanse groundwater, work to forestall climate change, provide much needed wildlife habitat, and offer nature recreation such as hiking, birding, and nature photography. Two amphibian and thirteen bird species endangered or of special concern in Indiana have been seen at LRWP's preserves as of 2009. At Eagle Marsh, visitors have identified about 170 different kinds of birds so far.

LRWP's nature education programs include naturalist-guided hikes, field trips for children's groups, educational nature presentations for children and adults including seniors, an annual Open House that attracts 600+ visitors, and more. All are free and open to the community.

Little River Wetlands Project is a 501 (c) (3) member supported organization. Please visit our website at www.lrwp.org or donate now.
