Trinity Group Homes, Inc. Charity Profile

Trinity Group Homes, Inc. seeks to improve the lives of residents diagnosed with major mental illness in North Idaho by providing life skills training in residential group home settings. We were started in 1979 and incorporated in 1980 by local individuals to provide drug and alcohol free homes where individuals can learn to live independent lives with their mental illness. Trinity is completely drug and alcohol free and has a zero tolerance for violation of these policies. We maintain four state-licensed semi-independent group homes in the Coeur d’Alene area, with 17 individual rooms in all four units. Each resident has a private unit completely furnished and shares living space, kitchen, eating area and bath rooms with between two and four other residents. All residents pay monthly rent and a share of utility costs for electricity and gas. Homes are completely furnished, have cable TV, internet access, washers and dryers and a completely equipped kitchen. Each resident has regularly assigned chores in addition to maintaining their personal space clean and orderly.
Our primary goal is to consistently improve service delivery for people in our community who suffer from major mental illnesses. We strive to educate the community by helping to “de-stigmatize” this tragic disease, as well as promote community awareness for this often-misunderstood group of individuals. Secondarily, we strive to reduce the amount of re-hospitalization and to prevent homelessness among the mentally ill. We are the only facility of this type in Northern Idaho and we work closely with the Kootenai County Mental Health Court and with Probation and Parole staff to provide housing for those individuals with mental illness who have felony records.
One hundred percent of our Board members make annual financial contributions to Trinity. The Board is actively managing the focus of Trinity and reviewing needs, future plans and actively working on fund raising projects, particularly evaluating the effectiveness of the annual Golf Tournament. Long term, we are seeking ways to obtain sufficient capital to expand from our current 17 rooms to 25-30 rooms.

Trinity Group Homes, Inc. Volunteer Information

Volunteers at Trinity Group Homes provide a variety of services. We are currently seeking 2-3 Board members, particularly ones with engineering, architecture, building services and legal background. Prospective board members with extended family experience with mental illness are particularly valuable. Other opportunities for volunteer service are to help provide transportation for our residents. Only a few of our residents own vehicles, due to limited income and other factors. Helping one day per week taking residents to appointments with physicians, psychiatrists, to group meetings such as AA, NA and other functions, to banks or payee organizations, or simply shopping using the Trinity van or personal vehicle provides a huge help to staff. Other volunteer opportunities relate to time sensitive events, such as cleaning prior to painting, helping to paint interior or exterior services, etc.

Trinity Group Homes, Inc. Donation Information

Trinity Group Homes, Inc. has a constant need for unrestricted financial support, either on a one-time basis or on a structured regular basis. Some donors currently send a monthly check to use for our Life Skills program. Another opportunity for donations would be the purchase or designation of a life insurance policy to benefit Trinity. We do have specific plans to recommend through our insurance agent, or can deal with your personal agent upon request. The objective of this request is to eventually build a reserve account to serve Trinity in a period of low grant receipts and to create a dedicated account for purchase of new building for expansion to serve the population we are unable to accommodate.

A second type of donation can be furniture such as single beds, dressers, side tables, kitchen tables and chairs, living room furniture such as love seats, couches or side chairs. We are also constantly seeking linens for single beds, pillows, spreads, and blankets, as well as towels, hand towels, wash cloths, and kitchen towels and cloths. We also are particularly appreciative for fresh food donations for our residents, most of who are on food stamps and limited budgets.

Donation Options:

Checks, Money Order, Credit Card, Recurring, PayPal, Cash, Online, Gifts In Kind, Assets, Real Estate, Annuities, Vehicle, Bequest Legacy, Fundraising
