Pan American Health Organization PAHO Guatemala Charity Profile

In century XIX, as of 1851, a series of tending Conferences was celebrated in Europe to control and to regulate the problems that caused the epidemics and pandemics that extended by the world.

The villa of those conferences was celebrated for the first time in the American continent in the city of Washington, DC, in 1880; in this conference aspects related to the epidemics were rage and yellow fever. Seven Latin American countries only participated in this Conference: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Haiti, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela. Cuba and Puerto Rico were represented by the Spanish delegation, within which the Dr. Carlos Finlay of Cuba participated, discoverer of the form of transmission of the yellow fever. In this V Conference the creation of an institution of notification seted out epidemiologist to whom they denominated Sanitary Organism the Permanent International of Notification.
