UNESCO Office Guatemala Charity Profile

UNESCO, like organism specialized in the education, science and the culture, the objectives of international peace and general well-being of the quick humanity particular attention to the cultural patrimony and guards so that the conservation of the sites and patrimonial monuments contributes to the social cohesion.

In 1979, UNESCO designated Cultural Patrimony from the Humanity to the Old Guatemala. Within the city several constructions of incommensurable cultural value are elevated, the one of them Real Palace of the Commanders in chief of the Old Guatemala that dates from half-full from the Century XVI, and that has undergone certain deterioration.

In agreement with the constitutional mandate that consecrates of public interest the conservation of the cultural patrimony of the nation, during year 2005 the Congress of the Republic of Guatemala, approved an allocation in the budget of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, specifically destined to the Project “Protection and Conservation of the Real Palace of the Commanders in chief of the Old Guatemala”.
