Project Mosaic Guatemala Charity Profile
PMG established an office in Antigua to dispatch volunteers to afflicted regions and collect and distribute donations (i.e. clothing, shoes, foodstuffs, medicine) to relief organizations, villages and individuals. PMG ultimately arranged placements for about 150 emergency volunteers in the wake of the hurricane.
After immediate-aid measures were achieved following Hurricane Mitch, PMG decided to continue arranging volunteer work placements for willing international volunteers in numerous organizations throughout Guatemala. This decision was based on the continual need, even in the absence of natural disaster, which permeates Guatemalan society.
The PMG non-profit volunteer work center continues to operate in the former colonial capital of Antigua, a city famed for Spanish schools and the remnants of a rich history. Antigua hosts a large number of visitors, and potential volunteers, from around the world.
With the evolution of PMG, it was decided to change the name of the organization to Project Mosaic Guatemala. The pieces of this mosaic are the various Guatemalan partner organizations that PMG is associated with. Together these comprise the overall pattern or design, which is present day PMG, a diverse mosaic that creates a broad unity in Guatemala.
Guatemala is a country of contrasts, where beautiful landscapes and unique cultural traditions exist side by side with difficult social conditions and extreme poverty. Guatemala is also a country where you can learn about Latin American culture while contributing to your host nation. Project Mosaic Guatemala (PMG) provides a bridge by helping people from around the world to find volunteer work placements in about 100 organizations that work to make Guatemala a better place.
