Amadeu Antonio Foundation Charity Profile
Since 1998 the Amadeu Antonio Foundation has been working in numerous ways to strengthen a democratic civil society. The aim is to resist extreme right-wing violence, racism and anti-Semitism. Over the last decade a youth culture of white supremacy has developed in Germany, particularly in the Eastern part of the country. Neo-Nazi and other extreme right-wing organisations with racist and anti-Semitic propaganda enjoy ongoing popularity. Their message is embedded in a culture of supposedly “apolitical” music, cartoons and video games that celebrates the “superiority of the German race” and glorifies violence against minorities. This culture has permeated schools, pubs, soccer stadiums, discotheques and other public places. Many teachers and parents are indifferent at best or implicitly approve of their children’s actions and rhetoric.
The foundation stands for a democratic society and the protection of minority rights. The Amadeu Antonio Foundation supports local projects and initiatives which stand up to racism and anti-Semitism. It provides financial support, training and workshops to help these initiatives to grow, to mobilise and to network.

Support from abroad: In its effort to promote a democratic civil society the Amadeu Antonio Foundation also asks for international cooperation and partnerships. Right-wing extremism has become a growing problem in many parts of Europe. We need to exchange ideas and cooperate with activists and foundations in other European countries and in the United States, whose experiences can be of great value to us.
