Spina Bifida of Georgia Charity Profile
SBAG was formed by a group of parents of children with spina bifida in 1976 and became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 1977. At that time, the organization's focus was on support and crisis management for families. Over a period of years, SBAG funded several research projects at Scottish Rite Children's Hospital; in 1986, SBAG provided $100,000 in funding to Shepherd Center for the development of a rehabilitation and independence skills training program for children with spina bifida (SPARX). The Spina Bifida Association of Georgia promotes the achievement of full potential for persons born with spina bifida while emphasizing the prevention of this birth defect.
