Marie Selby Botanical Gardens Volunteer Information
Volunteers at Selby
Even before The Marie Selby Botanical Gardens opened to the public in 1975, volunteers were at work behind-the-scenes collecting specimens, researching, and preparing greenhouses and grounds. Over the years dedicated volunteers have given thousands of hours to the growth and development of the orchid and bromeliad center of the world.
Today, Selby Gardens provides volunteering opportunities in horticulture on the grounds and in greenhouses, special events, education tours, children’s activities, research, plant fairs, retail shops, orchid and bromeliad identification, administration, and special projects. Volunteers learn new skills, make new friends with similar interests, and learn about Florida gardening and plants.
Interested in the Gardens’ wealth of volunteer opportunities? You are invited to attend one of our monthly Volunteer Orientations. During the presentation, you will learn more about how Selby Gardens carries out its vital mission of research, education, conservation and horticultural display, and you’ll hear about the benefits and responsibilities of Gardens volunteers. You will also enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of many of the places where volunteers work.
