Western Colorado Botanical Garden Charity Profile
The Mission of the Western Colorado Botanical Society is to promote responsible conservation of precious natural resources in Western Colorado by providing educational and recreational opportunities for visitors of all ages, while offering an aesthetic setting for cultural and community events.
In 1986 the Western Colorado Botanical Garden (WCBG) was established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Gardens are located on 15 acres leased from the City of Grand Junction. The first step was clean-up as the site was originally a salvage yard in a run-down neighborhood, long neglected. Twelve local agencies and many volunteers worked long and hard to clear the land. A 4,900 square foot greenhouse/butterfly house, including a gift shop opened on 1997. The greenhouse displays over 600 tropical plant species and the butterfly house many species of North American butterflies.
