Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Sanctuary Charity Profile
Greenwood’s mission is to rehabilitate sick, injured and orphaned wildlife for release into appropriate habitats. Greenwood also strives to educate the public, emphasizing humane solutions to human/wildlife interactions. Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center is a non-profit corporation that is devoted to the rehabilitation and release of injured and orphaned wildlife. Greenwood was founded in 1982 and formally incorporated in March 1993. that Greenwood is the largest wildlife rehabilitation center of its kind in Colorado?
that Greenwood treats approximately 3,000 wildlife animals per year representing over 135 different wildlife species?
that the goal of Greenwood is to release rehabilitated wildlife back into the Colorado ecosystem?
that Greenwood provides outreach programs for audiences of all ages regarding rehabilitation, humane solutions to human-wildlife conflicts, and how you can help Colorado's wildlife?
The goal of wildlife rehabilitation is to provide professional care to sick, injured, and orphaned wild animals so they can ultimately be returned to their natural habitats. Those animals that sustain injuries or illnesses that prevent them from living successfully in the wild usually are euthanized – have their suffering ended in a humane fashion. Occasionally, individuals who have recovered from their injuries but are not able to survive in the wild are placed in education facilities.
Wildlife rehabilitation is not an attempt to turn wild animals into pets. Patients are held in captivity only until they are able to live independently in the wild. Fear of humans is a necessary survival trait for wild animals and every effort is made to minimize human contact and prevent the taming of rehabilitation patients. Often this is an elaborate and time-consuming process.

Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Sanctuary Volunteer Information
Since 1982, Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center has been dedicated to the rehabilitation and release of sick, injured and orphaned wildlife. We rely on volunteers to help provide quality care to thousands of wild birds and mammals each year at our facility in Longmont. Most of our volunteers work directly with the wild animals, while others provide invaluable assistance with many other essential tasks.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Animal Care Volunteer - *Seasonal Opportunity*
Animal care volunteers are responsible for feeding, cleaning, and general care of the wildlife admitted to Greenwood. Specific duties include food preparation, hand feeding baby wildlife, cleaning cages, maintaining a clean hospital environment, refreshing food and water in outdoor enclosures, and other duties as specified by staff supervisors. We require that animal care volunteers commit to one four-hour shift per week for a minimum of 6 months.
Gift and Thrift Store Attendants -
At our thrift store in Boulder, thrift store attendants assist with sorting donated items, maintaining a clean atmosphere, and assisting customers with purchases. More experienced volunteers may be asked to assist with window displays and running the cash register.
Fundraising – Grant Writer
The grant writer researches, prioritizes, and applies for grants from a wide variety of governmental, private, and public foundations and institutions. Grant writers must possess a willingness to support Greenwood’s mission. Research and writing will be done off-site.
Fundraising – Special Events
As a special events volunteer, you will learn behind the scenes logistics of planning fundraising events and potentially volunteer at the events. It is a fun opportunity, and you're directly helping to raise funds for Greenwood and awareness of its mission.
Outreach-Education
Our Outreach-Education Volunteers visit schools, events and other organizations to teach ways to coexist with our wildlife neighbors and what to do in case you ever find yourself in a situation with a wild animal.
Greenwood’s Ambassadors -
As Greenwood’s Ambassadors, there are several opportunities to share your knowledge and experience on behalf of Greenwood.
Did you know…
With the high gas prices today many people don't want to make the drive to our facility. However, the gas you use to get to Greenwood and perform other volunteer services is tax deductible! Talk to a CPA to find out how.
