Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties Charity Profile
The mission of Second Harvest is to educate and involve individuals to end hunger and alleviate malnutrition in our communities. Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties was the first food bank in California and is the second oldest in the nation.
Founded in 1972, Second Harvest began by distributing food from a parking lot in Santa Cruz to groups operating the Breakfast For Kids programs. Today, Second Harvest distributes 6.5 million pounds of food per year to local hungry families, children, individuals and seniors in our community.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties Volunteer Information
Without the help of volunteers, many families in Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties would go hungry. Volunteers make a real difference in the lives of so many-and they have fun doing it! Last year over 3,200 volunteers contributed a combined total of 43,000 hours of service-equivalent to 20 full-time employees.
