Westside Shelter and Hunger Coalition WSHC Charity Profile
The Westside Shelter and Hunger Coalition is an alliance of organizations, public agencies and faith communities committed to ending hunger and homelessness through service coordination, public education and advocacy.
The Westside Shelter & Hunger Coalition (WSHC) is a non-profit volunteer organization that operates under the administrative umbrella of Community Partners. The Coalition was founded in 1982 to serve the Westside of Los Angeles County and is the oldest Coalition in the County working on behalf of the homeless. WSHC is an alliance of over 30 organizations, public agencies and faith communities committed to ending hunger and homelessness through service coordination, public education and advocacy. Throughout our history, the Coalition has proven to be an effective tool in providing high-quality programs and services for those in need in our community.
Coalition members work together to provide services that include initial intake and service referrals; showers, food and clothing; on-going case management; emergency, transitional and permanent housing; medical care; mental health treatment; HIV medical and social services; job training and placement; and substance abuse treatment.

Westside Shelter and Hunger Coalition WSHC Volunteer Information
At Step Up on Second, volunteers are an integral part of our program. Volunteers run weekly interest groups for our members (like creative writing and art) as well as help out in our kitchen, assist in day-to-day member services and other important activities.
Volunteer needs at Westside Food Bank include: office interns 2 hours a week, min. 4 weeks, food sorters on an as needed basis – (volunteers provide contact information to be called for upcoming food sorting events), and drivers with their own vehicles willing to pick up and deliver food for about 1 hour a week, minimum 1 year commitment preferred.
Venice Community Housing Corporation is currently seeking the following volunteers: Experienced construction workers, plumbers and electricians for the HandyWorker program. Social Work intern to develop a community resource and referral handbook. Housing/Urban Planning intern for affordable housing program.
