Queen of Hearts Therapeutic Riding Center, Inc. Charity Profile

Queen of Hearts Therapeutic Riding Center, Inc. is a non-profit horseback riding center which offers a program that supports the development of disabled children and adults living in the Inland Empire. The center is located on the grounds of Queen of Hearts Ranch.
Queen of Hearts Therapeutic Riding Center, Inc. was founded in 1998. It is an accredited center with the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA), an organization which ensures that riders receive quality education with a special emphasis on safety.

It is dedicated to providing an avenue to improve the bodies, minds and spirits of children, youth, and adults with physical and/or developmental disabilities through therapeutic horseback riding lessons and other equine activities.

The center affords the riders opportunities for mainstream integration, normalization, and socialization through equine activities. Here, the students are challenged by professional instructors and trained volunteers as they improve their physical health, social skills, and gain a sense of accomplishment and control.

Queen of Hearts Therapeutic Riding Center, Inc. is committed to being an inspiration and an educational resource to the therapeutic profession, both regionally and nationally, by demonstrating that therapy can and should be both productive and fun.

Queen of Hearts Therapeutic Riding Center, Inc. Volunteer Information

Without the generosity of our volunteers, the Center would be hard-pressed to offer affordable lessons to our clients.

Under the direction of the instructors, lesson volunteers fulfilll a variety of assignments, including leading and sidewalking. Under the direction of the stable manager, volunteers may also help with the care of horses and tack. Because we must ensure consistency in the way our horses are handled, all lesson volunteers go through a training process, regardless of prior experience.

Under the direction of the office manager, office volunteers assist in administrative functions such as copying, data entry, mailing, answering phones, computer programming, research and so on. Previous office experience is helpful.

Working with the executive director and the event chair, our fund-raising volunteers plan and staff the special events that help support the Center. They also assist with grant-writing, corporate gift solicitation, and membership letter-writing. An outgoing personality and willingness to pitch in are essential!

Under the direction of the program director, the maintenence volunteers perform routine repair and upkeep of the facilities such as stable management, tree trimming, and landscaping. They may also assist in development projects such as building a new tack room, developing a sprinkler system, upgrading the barn and hay shed, and building wash racks. Previous maintenance experience and tools are helpful.

Some of our riders have limited income, and no regular physical or occupational therapists. Medical volunteers help by evaluating prospective riders, at no charge, prior to entry into the program. They may also assist the program director in developing a specific riding program for these riders.

Queen of Hearts Therapeutic Riding Center, Inc. Donation Information

As you can imagine, operation of a center for therapeutic riding is quite costly. Special equipment must be purchased and maintained, and a stable full of horses must be fed, kept clean and be provided a regular maintenance routine including farrier and veterinary services. The grounds and facilities must be maintained, and the arenas kept watered and groomed.

Queen of Heart Therapeutic Riding Center, Inc. relies on the generosity of businesses and individuals in our community to help with these expenses through ongoing or one-time donations.
