Campaign for Justice Charity Profile
Campaign for Justice was founded in 1996 as a collaborative effort by individuals and organizations including the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California, Nikkei for Civil Rights & Redress (formerly known as National Coalition for Redress/Reparations), and the Japanese Peruvian Oral History Project. Founding individuals included former JLA internees, their children, grandchildren, and others interested in pursuing justice.
Campaign for Justice has two primary goals. First, it seeks to secure proper redress for former Japanese Latin American internees. Second, we want this little known story to be widely known and so we work to educate the public about the wartime and redress experiences of the Japanese Latin Americans.
Campaign for Justice Volunteer Information
The Campaign for Justice needs your help to advance the educational and redress efforts on behalf of the Japanese Latin American internees. Any time, energy and skills that you can share will be greatly appreciated. Please consider the following work areas which need your assistance:
oral history interviews
educational presentations
media relations
fundraising
grant research and writing
teacher training
educational materials, display, fact sheets, handouts, etc.
The Enemy Alien Files: Hidden Stories of World War II traveling exhibit
research and archiving
website updating
At this time we are in great need of supporters who are fluent in any combination of English/ Japanese/ Spanish/ Portuguese. They would be useful for interviewing of former internees, translating and transcribing interview tapes.
We are also looking for supporters who have computer skills, video or film experience, or have a flair for fundraising and event organizing. And we always need supporters who can staff our information tables and provide logistical support at events and presentations.
