Eastern Sierra Land Trust ESLT Charity Profile
The Eastern Sierra Land Trust is a nonprofit organization that works with willing landowners to protect vital lands in the Eastern Sierra for their scenic, recreational, historical, agricultural, botanic, watershed and wildlife values. We work to help families preserve their working farms and ranches in the face of pressures to subdivide their properties. We work to help landowners protect our region's plants and wildlife. And we work to preserve natural areas in andaround the Mono Basin National Scenic Area.
Founded in 2001, the ESLT is the first and only land trust based in Inyo, Mono, and Alpine counties. We began our work when private citizens and public officials in our area expressed interest in the developmentalternatives, mitigations, and habitat protections that land trusts can provide.
Eastern Sierra Land Trust ESLT Volunteer Information
Help develop regional events and lands celebrations that raise funds and educate the community about our work. Help with grant research and other activities associated with fundraising. Help build support for our expanding education and volunteer programs.
Work on a conservation easement to improve the land—remove invasive plants, install fences, create trails, etc. Join our Highway Cleanup team and beautify the lands along Scenic Highway 395. Help us establish a native landscape at our office that can serve as a demonstration garden.
We need artists. There is no better way to convey to the importance of our work than through artistic expression. The land we preserve is stunning. We have a continual need for original images that capture the beauty of the area, the culture of agriculture, and the diversity of plants and animals in the region. We need photographers to record special events. We need painters to capture the subtle detail of a preserved meadow, or the majesty of mountains rising above an easement. We need sculptors and art metal craftsman to produce commemorative works and signage. We welcome skilled photographers who can add to our published works.
Join staff members in putting together enjoyable and educational events that demonstrate the significance of the conservation values ESLT is working to protect for future generations. Help organize events such as conservation easement celebrations, field trips, and represent the Land Trust at community events. Write articles for the newsletter, or help develop and design community announcements.
A huge amount of behind-the-scenes action goes into protecting land. Work with ESLT staff to develop mailing that spread the word about ESLT’s successes. Offer your technical skills to assist the organization with technical troubleshooting and general IT counseling.
Are you interested in having a larger role in the ESLT? Consider joining one of the committees that drives the decision-making process in our organization. The ESLT growth has been fed by the incredible experience our committee members bring to the organization. We have a strong Lands Committee and a motivated Fundraising Committee and a budding Events Committee geared towards education and public outreach.
