Youth Emergency Assistance Hostel (YEAH!) Charity Profile
Youth Emergency Assistance Hostel is a community of more than 50 local citizens, students, working and retired people, and social service professionals working to develop a new model to prevent adult homelessness by addressing the issues of youth homelessness. We're actively involved with and supported by the Mayor and City Council of Berkeley, the Berkeley Homeless Commission as well as local youth agencies.
Youth Emergency Assistance Hostel (YEAH!) Volunteer Information
Volunteers are the backbone of the YEAH! community. Volunteers make it happen. They do fundraising, solicit in-kind donations, make connections with civic and religious and educational organizations and collaborate with social service agencies who can provide assistance to the street youth. Often this process gives volunteers the opportunity to deepen their understanding of individual life situations that result in youth homelessness.
Most importantly, volunteers provide the sense of community at the hostel itself. They work with an experienced supervisor who is always on site. Volunteers who are at the shelter the same evening every week come to regard themselves as a team. Those with irregular schedules meet new people.
Early evening volunteers (6-8pm) contribute their special skills towards activities and programs of interest to the youth. Volunteers from 8-10pm help with the evening meal and provide a welcoming presence. Volunteers who spend the night at the shelter (10pm-8am) are able to sleep, but are on-call as needed by the supervisor. Early morning volunteers (6-8am) help with the morning meal and clean-up.
Volunteering at the shelter contributes to everyone's well being. Volunteers learn from youth, from their fellow volunteers and from the trainings provided by . In turn, youth have a warm bed, hot meals and a way of making connections with people from the wider community.

Youth Emergency Assistance Hostel (YEAH!) Donation Information
We simply couldn't continue without the support of individuals. But because we rely so heavily on volunteers, ninety-one percent of funds are spent directly on program services and only eight percent on administration. Each dollar you give generates three more in community resources we can access.
