Women's Daytime Drop-In Center (WDDC) Charity Profile
The Women's Daytime Drop-In Center (WDDC) is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit program addressing the needs of homeless women and children to ensure that they have a safe daytime refuge where they receive support, nourishing meals, and access to community resources to overcome homelessness and regain self sufficiency.
The WDDC has evolved from its original mission of providing emergency and crisis response to a program of on-going support services. The WDDC serves an average of 150 women and children each month in a nurturing, home-like environment. Services are available at no fee to any homeless woman or child.
Women's Daytime Drop-In Center (WDDC) Volunteer Information
The summer is a busy time for the WDDC as we have many more children that come to play. If you are a college student looking for something meaningful to do this summer, this might be the perfect opportunity for you! The Summertime Coordinators are responsible for creating fun, age-appropriate activities for the children throughout the day. This position offers a great deal of experience working with at-risk youth in a small and supportive environment. You will be expected to volunteer at least three days a week from 9am to 4pm.
The intern will be supervised and supported by the director of the Children's Program at the Drop-In. Her primary responsibilities will be to develop age appropriate activities for our children and to update our resources for children in the Bay Area. We are seeking a mature yet playful person with an interest in working with homeless women and children.
Working with the kids at the WDDC is one of the greatest joys we have to offer. If you are a reliable, creative, and grounded individual with child care experience and a knowledge of positive discipline techniques, we would love to hear from you!
Our Care Coordinators help with general client support and are expected to donate 4-6 hours a week to the Drop-in on a consistent basis. Responsibilities include: helping women in crisis gain access to resources in the community, offering child care support, engaging in household activities (knitting, art projects, etc), helping to maintain a safe and clean atmosphere, and supervising the office space
The Women's Daytime Drop-In Center is looking for someone interested in learning about the current housing resources in the Bay Area. The intern will be supervised and supported by a group of professional housing case managers. She will specifically assist with updating the Drop-In's housing database and will be given the skills necessary to provide housing stabilization help to our clients.
The WDDC is looking for women interested in helping prepare a simple, hot lunch for our clients. Experience in the kitchen is a plus, but certainly not necessary. We serve 15-35 clients each weekday from noon to 1pm and could use a couple of extra helpers. We ask that you commit to one shift a week from 9:30-1pm. Days needed: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
We need an Art Coordinator! The women and children of our center could greatly benefit from weekly or monthly art workshops. We are looking for someone who has experience leading groups in simple, self-designed art projects (jewelry, pottery, beading, framing, painting, etc). Playful and flexible attitude needed!
