Vision Statement: To accelerate Christian ministry in the disability community.
Our Mission Statement: To communicate the Gospel and equip Christ-honoring Churches worldwide to evangelize and disciple people affected by disabilities.
In doing this, we:
We present the clear and concise Gospel of Jesus Christ to all people with disabilities and their families served through our programs.
We train, disciple, and mentor people affected by disability to exercise their gifts of leadership and service in the church and their communities.
We energize the church to move from lack of awareness to including disabled persons into the fabric of worship, fellowship, and outreach.
Joni and Friends Volunteer Information
Joni and Friends’ programs and activities are made possible through the efforts of thousands of volunteer ‘friends’ who volunteer their time and talents to serve people affected by disability. Wheels for the World, Joni and Friends' flagship wheelchair outreach program, informs you on how to donate a wheelchair, crutches, canes, walkers or other rehabilitation equipment through a volunteer organization called Chair Corps. WFTW wheelchair restoration shop requirements are described along with a list of private correctional centers, state prisons and Federal prisons and penitentiaries who partner with Joni and Friends. International Mission Outreaches describes how to apply, what to expect and lists upcoming mission outreaches. Wheelchair distribution advises on the three ways wheelchairs are dispensed to disabled individuals living abroad.
The World Health Organization estimates that there is a need for 20-30 million wheelchairs around the world. In some of these countries the cost of a wheelchair can equal a year's wages, resulting in the impossibility for people affected by disability to ever receive one. Living in isolation, lacking simple mobility and cut off from life, many of the disabled are also tragically cut off from the local church. As a result, many have never heard the gospel message or experienced the love of Christ.
Wheels for the World aims to meet the physical and spiritual needs of the disabled around the world by providing wheelchairs and sharing the love of Jesus Christ. We also do this by connecting the disabled with the church through creating disabilty awareness and by educating and training the local churches in disability ministry.
