Hands For Hunger Charity Profile
Hands For Hunger is a humanitarian organization committed to the elimination of hunger and the reduction of food waste through the creation of meaningful and engaging partnerships formed amongst all sectors of the Bahamian community. We strive to inspire a shared sense of social and environmental responsibility amongst citizens, who, individually and collectively, come to realize the power of their own contributions. We do this by food rescue and distribution, education and other innovative solutions.
Our vision is a transformed Bahamas where everyone has access to three nutritious and fortifying meals each day. No one goes hungry. The quality of our environment is enhanced. Working with students at local schools is an important part of Hands For Hunger's work in our community and for the third year in a row now, we are thrilled to partner with several of these schools in Holiday Food Drive Initiatives.
Last week, both Primary and Secondary Students of St. Andrews Int. School shared the efforts of their Thanksgiving Food Drives with Hands For Hunger in a special Thanksgiving Assembly. Students raised a total of 300 lbs of dried food items that we delivered directly to our recipient agencies. Then, later in the week, we received a surprise call from Kingsway Academy asking us to join the students at their morning chapel, where we then presented with 5 boxes filled with canned and boxed goods.
With only a few weeks left before classes end for the Holiday Break, there are still two schools actively running food drives on our behalf: Lyford Cay Int. School and, for the first time this year, Tambearly.
All of us at H4H are deeply grateful for the opportunity we get to work in partnership with young people throughout the community and truly appreciate the efforts of all of the students, faculty and parents to help ensure that those in need don't go without this holiday.
