CareLink Volunteer Information
Meals-On-Wheels volunteers drive their own vehicles on weekdays around noon delivering meals to grateful older people in the service region, which includes Faulkner, Lonoke, Monroe, Prairie, Pulaski and Saline counties. Senior Companions must be age 60 or older. They provide older people in the CareLink six-county service area with companionship and help with light housekeeping and other daily needs.
Volunteer ombudsmen are advocates for residents of nursing homes. They communicate the concerns of residents and their families to regional ombudsmen.
Senior Supplement volunteers deliver much-needed groceries on the third Saturday of each month. Use your own vehicle and just a little bit of your weekend to help in a big way.
You can help provide one of the keys to ongoing independence for homebound older residents of central Arkansas. Meals-On-Wheels volunteers deliver hundreds of meals every weekday. For many seniors, the personal contact with our volunteers is just as important as the food.
A short volunteer orientation is provided. You will need to have your own vehicle and free time between 11 a.m. and noon weekdays. Volunteers deliver meals to a specific route of eight to 15 homes.
If you're over age 60 and want to continue — or begin — your tradition of volunteerism, consider the Senior Companion Program. Senior Companions donate about 20 hours a week of companionship and assistance for older people who still live at home. They help with light housekeeping, transportation and other activities of daily living. Volunteers who participate in this program receive 40 hours of free caregiver training and earn a stipend that does not affect their Social Security benefits.
As a Volunteer Ombudsman, you can help ensure that nursing home residents are getting the quality of care they are entitiled to. Trained volunteers, under the supervison of professional ombudsmaen, work with nursing home residents and their families. A Volunteer Ombudsman typically visits a nursing home weekly. You can be a Volunteer Ombudsman if you are at least 18 years old and have no immediate family members employed or currently residing in the nursing home that you will visit.
Each volunteer who participates in this program will complete a free day-long training class and 12 hours of orientation at his or her chosen nursing home.

The Arkansas Foodbank Network provides food for pickup at the CareLink offices, and volunteers deliver that little extra help to CareLink clients.Volunteers at senior centers located throughout CareLink's six-country srevice area serve meals, lead various activities and record attendance.
CareLink hosts the Senator David Pryor Awards each year to honor Arkansans over 60 who have made significant contributions to their communities. Other events are held occasionally as fundraisers.
